The History of Public Transport in Vietnam
Thursday, May 27th, 2010Until the late 19th century, the mandarins were carried out in the hammocks, the officials were on litters, horses were only used by carriers, and most ordinary people were able to travel only on foot. I read an article by Hung You can trace the history of public transport in Vietnam?
Saigon-Columbus was the first urban area to take shape in 1862 with the arrival of French settlers. Over twenty years later, in 1884, it was the turn of Hanoi when both gravel and asphalt with proper drainage system replaced the old ways. Urban transport is born then, too. The early years saw the emergence of caliche (bus driven by two horses), which belonged to the colonial civil servants and military personnel. Others used a drivers came from the French colonies in Africa.
In 1885, there was only one of each of these types of Hanoi, a macabre purifier belonging to the bishop who built the St. Joseph Cathedral in Hanoi, and rattan caliches a property by Lieutenant Colonel Henri Riviera. Things were different in Saigon, however, where there were 84 Melba in 1868 and 449 of them in 1900. Malabar was known to Saigon as head coach of glass “(which had two large windows) and the most popular name,” matchbox coach “because of its rectangular shape. Later, a smaller but easier to coach called concert pop music (or stroller), which could carry ten passengers and cargo on the roof at the same time, quickly becoming the main means of transport between the city and southern provinces.
After the Second World War tanks mushrooms in Saigon, with thousands of parking areas crowded market in Die Cau, Binh Tien and Cholon. Shopping and repair business has become good business. A typical example was the establishment Gay Freres. It was created in 1879 to 34 B and 36 Ls main roads (now Ly Tu Trong Street).
The first known public transport, a train pulled by three mules, was introduced in Hanoi in 1885. It was not until 1912, Hanoi and get a real tram rails powered by electricity. The old tram was powered by steam for years before this, and was alive much longer in the southern city. It ran right through the war. To compensate for its low speed, the freight tram could carry bulky and cheap, it was appropriate for operators of small but represented an important part of the city’s population at that time. The roaring sound of the tram died in 1985, leaving only nostalgia for many city dwellers past.
The trishaw made its appearance in the late 19th century. Two of them were imported from Japan by the mayor of Hanoi, Bonal, but the number had increased by only six at the time 395 of them were operating in Saigon. The median income for a daily driver was a meal which was equal to the salary of a skilled worker. The rickshaw soon spread to almost all urban areas and was commonly used until the end of World War II in 1945. HEY! CYCLO!
Nobody knows who invented the only vehicle in the country, in Saigon in 1830, was called Push-cycle, bicycle, accompanied by a person carrying goods or passengers. Although only designed, can lead to a lot of wonderful people and goods to destinations away. The thrust of the cycle were disappearing in urban areas, paving the way for the birth of this tricycle, cycle.
After taking some time to settle in Hanoi, quickly became common in cities. The cycle has the advantage of being able to transport heavy and bulky and there was some very high energy efficiency. Between 1950 and 1980, was the main means of transport in Hanoi and Saigon. “Every day, I take my wares to the market cycle,” said Mrs. Hoa, a trader of 60 years at a market in Dong. According to Mr. Chu has lived in Tran Quoc Thao Street, District 3, Ho Chi Minh City for over 70 years, Cyclos were used to make pleasant excursions in the city during the Tet holiday.
It ’s interesting that the design cycle varies according to location. While Saigon cycle is narrower and higher, the version of Hanoi is lower and wider and carries two people comfortably. Hue version is a combination of both narrow and low, while the vehicle is longer in Haiphong and sinuous, like a boat.
The invasion of motor vehicles launched in 1930 with the introduction of the first car to Saigon. Rapid urbanization and the development of modern vehicles endanger cycle. Today it is increasingly with the ban on the streets, especially during peak hours. His figure is slow and cumbersome, difficult traffic on city streets that are narrow and high population density. Little by little. motorcycles and buses are replacing the cycle.
Less than passenger demand, Cyclos have become tourist attractions and a means of transport at a wedding. The sight of five Cyclos followed, each with an age and a young woman and a large red wooden box on his way home from the bride to the ceremony of commitment remains visible during the wedding season. But the most important function of Cyclos in Hanoi is as vehicles for tourists from around the old capital. Cyclo groups can find out many famous hotels and travel agencies in the city center.
This unique three-wheeled vehicle has had its day and is now a thing of the past, rudimentary transport in the city. And indeed, a living museum, continues to work and the animated screen.

Wednesday, May 12th, 2010Once in Germany, where the Americans are, you will notice that the German public transport system is much more efficient and cost effective than in America. There are many more options and for the most part, you can get anywhere anytime. Note that you can buy a train ticket from your current location to destination and this ticket is valid for the train, buses and trams. ie. Take a train from Darmstadt Hanau then use the same ticket for a bus from Hanau to Frankfurt.
Taxi: Taxis can be found around any airport or public location. If you walk to a taxi rank and a row of taxis to go to the first vehicle in front. The price varies, but can be costly at times. The weekend rates are generally the most expensive taxi rates in one working day. If you can avoid using a taxi would recommend. If you are relatively satisfied with the service provided by the taxi driver a tip or two euros would be enough.
Street cars (car): Via the cars were the first mode of public transport to Germany. Taxis make frequent stops and have a configuration map of each stop. Check the path and make sure the stop you want is close enough to your destination, if you do not want to take the U / S-Bahn, a bus or taxi. Taxis are relatively fast, as fast as a normal car in the city.
Rail: The European rail system is set to be a great cost effective and efficient means of international transport across Europe. A large number of trains in the city running constantly throughout the day, the German rail system is just as effective. Public Transportation Overseas
Wednesday, May 12th, 2010When on vacation or traveling abroad and want to avoid dying in a car crash in flames. Some tips to avoid a similar fate and travel tips on safety in public transport abroad.
If a country has a pattern of tourists being targeted by criminals on public transport, that information is mentioned in the country-specific information in the section on crime.
Taxi. Only take taxis clearly identified with official markings. Attention to the marked booths.
Trains. Robo well organized, systematic passengers on trains along popular tourist routes is a problem. It is more common at night and especially on overnight trains.
If you see your way being blocked by a stranger and another person is very close to you from behind, you go. This can happen in the corridor of the train or on the platform or station.
Do not accept food or drinks from strangers. Criminals have been known to drug food or drink that provides passengers. Criminals may also spray sleeping gas in train compartments. Whenever possible, lock your compartment. If you can not be locked securely, take turns sleeping in shifts with your traveling companions. If this is not possible, stay awake. If you must sleep unprotected, tie your luggage and valuables safe as possible.
Do not be afraid to alert authorities if you feel threatened in some way. additional police are often assigned to ride trains on routes where crime is a serious problem.
Bus. The same type of criminal activity found on trains can be found on public bus routes on tours. For example, tourists have been drugged and robbed while sleeping on buses or in bus stations. In some countries, groups of all passengers were stopped and robbed by bands of outlaws.
Tuk-tuk. In Thailand, there are three-wheeled vehicles called tuk-tuk mainly by the sound they make. Most hang around tourist areas and proposes to open to massage parlors or a “free ride.” They get a cut of any place that take in the event of a jewelry store, a bar, or massage. Inside the country, are mostly legitimate. Those I’m talking about are mainly in Bangkok.
Baht bus. Not really a bus, a van with the rear seats. They are covered and are mainly used in Pattaya, Thailand. They drive a circuitous route and charge about 10 baht foreign and local Thaïs 5 baht for a ride. If the flag and ask them to go to a specific location, so you can pay more because they are basically hiring a taxi. It is easier simply more wave to get to where you go, playing the intercom, and get paid. Beware of pickpockets. They can be in the form of adult children with a neighbor or take advantage of foreign transvestites drunk.
If you have problems with tuk-tuk or bus baht, contact the tourist police.
Public transport can be an easy and inexpensive way to travel. Just be careful as you would at home.
Gas Prices Causing Public Transportation Concerns
Wednesday, May 12th, 2010Gas prices have pushed prices steadily in both Canada and the United States and does not seem like something is being able to end this crisis happen. Gas prices are leaving millions of people in a dilemma whether to drive or not to work, or if public transport could be a better solution. Now, if both buses and taxis wants to establish new rates to coincide with the price of gas this year. Taxi drivers have complained that they are not making money because of the high cost of gas prices and feel the need to raise prices to help pay the cost price of gas. Buses are also plans to raise its prices, but that should not come into force until early 2009.
With public transport in the risk of raising their prices this is to make it more difficult for people to move at the moment because some are forced to start walking away. Nor is it safe to walk in some neighborhoods of the city at night and the cab fare, many women are prevented from walking alone at night to their homes. This could be a series of problems and concerns, and frankly is just a problem with rising gas prices so high.
Many are not driving much, except to work and stay where they are most often not as good as people need to quit. It also caused a lot of people because of financial pain are forced to drive to fill the pumps, or take public transportation, which is also increasing.
There is no solution to the problem much anyway and this is just the beginning of the problem. There is no magic hiding no one has found oil and oil grows on trees everywhere so people need to start adapting to the fact that what was something taken for granted is now a resort near used. There is still enough oil to last a long time, but the price will only continue to rise and fall ever because the fact is that there is more oil once it is made for countries is higher prices for their performance and consume less. This is also the reason behind the hybrid cars that run on alternative energy and is much safer for the environment and less of a burden on the pocket.
If you are moving in the short term ensure that they move close to where you work for the next twenty years it is important that you live close to everything, like work, school, food and things like that because gas is extremely expensive. So, or have to adapt to a new source of energy or you need to spend a long time control to pay for gas and leave almost nothing for other needs. Wise people are already switching to other means of energy-fueled vehicles and these cards will soon be more suitable for 5-10 years, when everyone starts to make the change.
Public Transportation Etiquette Tips
Wednesday, May 12th, 2010I take the bus every day to work and realized that some people do not understand the label on a common basis of public transport. Maybe I am wrong to consider that these points of etiquette are naturally rooted in the subconscious of man. Or maybe I’m tense. Anyway, here are some tips guide to help make your trip more comfortable and bearable for all concerned.
1) Be on time and have the fare ready. The world revolves around you. I know this may be difficult to understand, but we all have places to go and when we arrived late because the bus has to stop and honking bus with air so you can execute the catch block or fumble with your currency rate for a few minutes that affects everyone. The bus has a program to maintain and build gradually lost every minute and can also cause people to lose their transfer important. Be courteous and your ticket or prepaid card in hand and not be late.
2) Enter your home for the elderly. This is common sense just basic that anyone with half a brain should have been taught by their parents when they were young. If you see the bus was full and an older person is looking for a seat, be a gentleman or lady, and give them the place. It may seem a small gesture, but can make a big difference for some of us who have largely abandoned the kindness and goodness of man, a small gesture, something that can confirm that humanity is not totally lost.
3) Do not sleep on the bus. Just do not. I know it’s early (or late), and are tired of just waking up (or drowning same Miller Light), but the bus is not your bed is a bus. free to rest your eyes feel, but when you start to snore or fall in the closing laps of others who have crossed the line bus driver, “a man” of fear, which passes on the bus. ” Do not be that person. Nobody likes that person.
4) Bring something to do on the bus. Do not be like putty Seinfeld, just look to space as a strange shame. Bring something to do, to read a book, a portable video game to play, the newspaper, the smart phone or something. It is a fresh look to sit and watch the person in front of you, because you have nothing to do with the bus it is your fault, do the rest of us uncomfortable about it.
5) It is a little tip for bus drivers, you can tell it’s cold outside, but when you pack + 30 people in a confined space your body heat is generally sufficient to heat the bus. It is not necessary to blow up the bus “heat and turn the narrow, metal boxes in a stifling hot, arid, farming seeds of the desert. Not everyone will like us to sweat shirt on the bus.
